"[T]o be scientists, archaeologists must think carefully about and question, explicitly and loudly, everything and everyone, every pronouncement and every assumption." --James I. Ebert, Distributional Archaeology, p.5

I came across that sentence while putting together the first stage of my eventual thesis work. It applies not only to how professional-quality work should be done, but to other areas of my life as well. There are plenty of posts (mainly involving our "illustrious" current administration, where I question just about everything that the government does lately. I don't label them as such, but they're there. I apply that sort of principle to everything in my life -- critical thinking doesn't stop once I've left the classroom or closed the textbook.

I am a graduate student, if you couldn't tell from the reference to my thesis and all. Archaeology is my thing. I am a scientist and a humanist at the same time, strange enough.

Yes, I bash Bush. Deal. It's not my fault my favorite politician is actually sane. I'm also a geek, and a dork sometimes, and in some ways I'm not exactly what you'd call "mainstream", though in most ways I am, as well.

I have a BA in Anthropology and German with a minor in Museum Studies. I miss that campus so much. I loved it. At the moment I'm working on my MA in Anthropology. Beyond that I haven't figured out yet. Either a job or a PhD. Probably a job, hopefully for one Federal agency or another.

I know, it's a boring bio. So are most of my entries, probably.

Recommend some books for me to read!

You can keep up with my progress at writing fifty prompted ficlets here and here. (Two separate challenges.)
I also have a big list of fics written for justprompts (and other communities) here.

Some quotes about archaeology from popular culture, because I think they're amusing:

Archaeology: the art of putting square holes in a round world. (No idea where this came from, and it's probably not really popular culture, but this ------> (right here) is me not caring.)

"So you like archaeology, huh?" -Catherine Willows
"Oh yeah. Whenever I wanna feel small." -Gil Grissom
CSI: Crime Scene Investigation

"Archaeology is risky business." -Duncan MacLeod
Highlander

"Archaeology is the search for fact... not truth. If it's truth you're looking for, Dr. Tyree's philosophy class is right down the hall." -Dr. Henry "Indiana" Jones, Jr.
Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade

"Well I always thought that archaeologists were always funny looking men going around looking for their mommies." -Willie Scott
"Mummies." -Dr. Henry "Indiana" Jones, Jr.
Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom

"I'm a time traveler. I point and laugh at archaeologists." The Doctor (number Ten), Doctor Who

Love, like humans, comes in all forms, both of which were created by God. We are simply all sexual.
